KLINIKA BERNARDO

Fact Sheet

·         KLINIKA BERNARDO is a free diagnostic, treatment and referral facility for male patients. The clinic is situated behind the Ramon Magsaysay High School building along EDSA, Cubao, Quezon City.

·         It was created through a Quezon City ordinance in January, 2014 and is directly supervised and managed by the city government of Quezon City through its Health Department and with the support Department of Health (DOH) of the National Government.

·         The clinic was named after the late Ponciano Bernardo, the second Mayor of Quezon City and touted as one of the best in the city’s history.  Various parks and other government domains have been named after him, including the P. Bernardo Park in front of the clinic.

·         Its mission is to help reduce the spread of HIV-AIDS through free diagnosis, counselling, and implementation of initial measures for treatment of the patient. Klinika Bernardo prides itself as being stigma-free, non-discriminatory and friendly.  Among the clinic’s services are, but not limited to: HIV Counselling and Testing, Education, STI Diagnosis and Management.  

·         Klinika Bernardo is the first ever social hygiene clinic (SHC) that caters mainly to males. SHCs are clinics that specialize in the detection and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV-AIDS.

·         Klinika Bernardo operates beyond typical office hours to accommodate individuals who may be taking extended or night shifts.  (Monday to Friday, 3 p.m. to 11.p.m.)

·         Klinika Bernardo extends to the community by hiring 20 peer educators to increase referrals and to educate the community on the nature of the disease.

·         Klinika Bernardo cooperates and collaborates with various institutions to fulfil its mission.  The clinic conducts regular consultations with community-based and concerned organizations to gather information on HIV-AIDS. Among these groups are the AIDS Society of the Philippines, the Association of Spa, Massage Parlors, Clubs and KTV bar Operators (SAMACKA), and Take the Test Inc.

·         By virtue of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the QC city government, the DOH, and with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Klinika Bernardo’s facilities and activities will be improved through the following:

§  Renovation of the reception area and expansion of the lobby to make them more welcoming and accommodating to clients.
